How often you need to change your engine oil?
Cars in the olden years need to be changed every 3000 miles because the oil used during that period tended to wear out within 3000 miles.
Unless you’re driving a car that’s more than ten years old, or under super extreme conditions, there’s really no reason to change your oil at 3000 miles anymore.
Also with the introduction of high quality lubricants and tighter tolerances in the assembly of automotive engines many auto makers recommend oil change at 5000 , 7500,10000 or 15000 miles for newer models under ideal driving conditions.
You need to change your oil frequently if you are driving in a severe condition:
A severe condition is identified from the below:
- Extensive Idling
- Frequent stop and go driving in the traffic
- Driving in extreme temperatures (below than 10 degrees or above 90 degrees)
- Extreme humidity
- Frequent short distance trips less than 5 miles
- Towing a trailer or hauling heavy materials.
